The company started from humble beginnings in 2012 with the founders going door-to-door to speak with local businesses to understand their challenges with payment processing. In the process of speaking with small business owners, we realized that many of those owners, quite frankly, didn’t know much about payment processing and many were very open to sharing their previous bad experiences about the industry.

Statements were hard to read, 1-800 numbers had long hold times, and processors expected business owners to sign up for three-year contracts with huge termination fees. Too many different pricing models to list, let alone understand, and the near-infinite variety of banks and credit cards that consumers use can make it practically impossible for merchants to know what it will cost them to swipe any given card. For a small business owner on a tight margin, the swings can be devastating.

It was obvious something was wrong with merchant services. But how could we do it right? We start by taking an educational approach with all of our customers in order to serve as a resource for small business owners to understand exactly what they are paying for and why. By showing side-by-side comparisons of interchange tables and fees, we help our merchants understand where they can adjust and save money. We strive to be as transparent as possible, and pride ourselves on sending monthly statements that are not just easy to read, but free of gimmicks, fees  and unnecessary line items. 

One of the biggest challenges that business owners seemed to consistently face was ever-increasing prices from their current provider. Many of the large payment processors and banks have entire departments devoted to manipulating the rates they charge their merchants, with models and algorithms that generate ways to make shareholders more money, always at their client’s expense. We have no such departments. By keeping our overhead low, we can offer the lowest possible pricing to our customers, and we make a promise to all our merchants that we will never increase our fees for as long as they process with us — ever. We quickly realized that in order to provide the highest possible value for small businesses we also had to provide a best-in-class experience for our agents and ISO partners. All of our clients have a personal relationship with the person who sells them our services. Each business owner has not just our 1-800 number, but the cell phone of their local agent who is available to help anytime they need it — nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a relationship we not only foster and encourage, but also expect from our agents, and we’re able to do so because we offer our agents an incredibly competitive revenue share that allows them to make more money, while focusing on giving fewer customers more of their attention. 

Bigger companies also like to play games with their agents much like they do with their merchants — we don’t. There are no thresholds our agents need to hit, no changes in rates, and no caps on the amount of money our agents can receive. Agents are paid residuals for the life of their accounts — no ifs, ands, buts, or long legal mumbo-jumbo about it.

Making it even easier for agents and merchants to make the switch, we offer an early termination fee coverage program to help businesses get out of any current payment processing contracts, and we will never make you sign a contract (or agree to termination fees) to work with us. Our free equipment program ensures that every business has top-of-the-line processing terminals with no extra costs or sales necessary, and we never have and never will offer terminal lease agreements.
